Track and Field Starts Weekend at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio – In a split team event, part of the Trine University men's and women's track and field teams were in action on Friday night at Oberlin College for the Crimson and Gold Invite.

The Thunder saw one student-athlete tie a school record. Avery Boyce recorded a score of 3.20 meters (10' 6.00") to enter into a tie the best mark in program history. Boyce also led the team in the 60-meter dash (8.70 seconds) and long jump (4.45 meters / 14' 7.25").

Kristen Cox led a trio of women's shot putters with a runner-up score of 9.25 meters (30' 4.25"). Allayna Gue was second in her event as well, the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:53.66. Summer South paced Trine in the 3000-meter run at 11:47.84. Haleigh Loso represented the Thunder in the weight throw with a fifth-place finish of 9.10 meters (29' 10.25").

On the men's side, Trine took home four event wins. Those victories included Samuel Slough in the 800-meter run (2:04.10), Hank Glasgo in the mile run (4:45.90), Aiden Verhey in the long jump (6.05 meters / 19' 10.25") and AJ Henderson in the weight throw (14.33 meters / 47' 0.25"). Verhey was also third in the triple jump at 10.81 meters (35' 5.75").

Quintin Gordon paced the field for the Thunder in multiple sprint events, going 7.55 seconds in the 60-meter dash (second) and 24.33 seconds in the 200-meter dash (third). Other top scorers for the Trine men were Jacob Batten with a second-place finish in the 400-meter run (54.26 seconds), Zach Brickler with a third-place spot in the 3000-meter run (9:20.96), Joshua Slimak finished third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.98 seconds), a fourth-place finish by Nathan Leap in the pole vault (3.80 meters / 12' 5.50"), and James Wordleman who was third in the shot put (11.75 meters / 38' 6.75").

The rest of the Thunder will be in action on Saturday, February 10 at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for the Midwest Elite Invitational.
