NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Trine University men's track and field team won the Manchester University Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Trace Stookey won two events and
Caden Large and
Nicholas Spielman each won another.
The Thunder finished with 210 points ahead of Ohio Northern University with 205 points. The host Spartans were third with Franklin University and Defiance College rounding out the five team field.
Stookey won the discus and hammer throws, his toss of 44.14 meters/144' 9" betters his seventh best throw in program history. He won the hammer with a 47.78m/156' 9" effort.
Colten Zableckis added a fifth place effort in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.59m/152' 10".
Spielman won the 5000-meter run in 15:38.62 and
Robert Lohman took fourth in the race.
Large led a 1-2 effort in the 400-meter hurdles with fellow freshman
Cole Figg joining him in their debut in the discipline. Large out leaned his teammate at the line by .01 seconds. Large finished in 58.81 seconds with Figg just behind.
Kyle Redd,
Braden Estep, and
Hunter Wilson finished 3-4-6 in the 100-meter dash. Redd's preliminary time of 10.77 seconds ranks sixth in program history. The trio teamed up with
Mason Turske to win the 4x100-meter relay in 42.17 seconds.
Corey Washington took fourth in the 200-meter dash in 22.79 seconds and
Rushawn James was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 52.24 seconds.
Brady Millington,
Max Van Huis, and
Sam Sering took top-five finished in the 800-meter run.
Ryan Hoopingarner and
Lucas Tutrow joined Van Huis and Sering in the 1500-meter run, claiming spots 2-5. Millington, and Sering joined forces with
Tyler Hartleroad and
Ethan Schroeder to take second in the 4x400-meter relay.
Trine tallied 73 points in the distance events, rounded out by a 3-4-6 effort in the 3000-meter steeplechase from
Zack Gaynor,
Elijah Gaddey, and
William Kleber.
Collin Brady,
James Wordleman and
Harrison Richter took second, third, and fourth in the javelin throw while
Trevor Freel,
Isaiah Pryor, and
Clayton Griswold were second, third, and fifth in the long jump.
