HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Trine University men's and women's track and field teams were in action on Saturday at the Hillsdale Tune-Up, the final event before the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships. The men's team placed second out of five schools and the women were fourth. The host NCAA DII Hillsdale Chargers were the top team for both the men and women.
The men brought home two event wins, starting with Greysen Spohn in the 60-meter hurdles. He ran a time of 8.22-second time to claim first place. The Thunder also saw Blane Johnson win the 400-meter dash at 53.51 seconds with Jack Melvin second at 53.93 seconds. Samuel Slough was second in his event as well, the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:04.18.
Third-place finishes were credited to Trine's Ethan Spahr in the high jump (1.85 meters / 6' 0.75") and Morgan Johnson in the pole vault (4.31 meters / 14' 1.75"). Hank Glasgo led the team with a fourth-place spot in the mile run (4:35.03) and Dillon Dennison secured fifth in the weight throw (15.29 meters / 50' 2.00"). The Thunder had three seventh-place spots for the men's team: John Coleman in both the 60-meter dash (7.34 seconds) and 200-meter dash (23.45 seconds) as well as Kimball Hughes in the shot put (14.43 meters / 47' 4.25").
The Trine women were led by Peyton Schuring, who was third in the 60-meter dash (8.48 seconds) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (29.07 seconds). Kelly Valle brought home a fifth-place finish as well in her event, the mile run. She completed the race with a time of 6:01.58. The team's leading thrower was Macy Bonifield. She threw an 11.23-meter (36' 10.25") shot put for ninth and an 11.50-meter (37' 8.75") weight throw for 21st.
The Thunder men and women enter the postseason for the MIAA Championships on Saturday, February 24 inside the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center (ARC).
