Thunder Finish Third at Indiana DIII Championships

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – At the Indiana DIII Championships, the Trine University men's track and field team secured a third-place finish out of nine teams. DePauw University hosted the annual meeting of NCAA DIII schools in the Hoosier State. Wabash College was the team champion.

The team had a variety of top finishers at DePauw, but only one event champion. The 110-meter hurdle event saw Greysen Spohn take the crown with a time of 14.96 seconds. Right behind him in the event was Evan Selby (15.01 seconds). Spohn also had the best mark for the team in the 100-meter dash at 10.83 seconds (second).

Trine's top finisher in the 200-meter dash was Aaron Pike, who was ninth at 22.65 seconds. Pike was 11th in the 400-meter dash, also the best mark for the team. The 800-meter run saw Tyler Hartleroad cross the line fourth with a time of 1:55.59. Holden Martin was also fourth in his event, the 1500-meter run (4:09.74). The top times in distance events included Yosef Solomon in the 5000-meter run (15:57.95), good for seventh and a runner-up finish for Ryan Hoopingarner in the 10,000-meter run (32:20.84).

Aidan Lapp placed third overall to lead the team in the 3000-meter steeplechase at 10:04.69. The 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Selby, Spohn, Ben Williams and Pike was third as well with a time of 42.79 seconds. The second relay event saw the team of Hartleroad, Samuel Slough, Zander Huss and Jacob Batten secure fifth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:33.98).

Williams had the best finish in field events with his second-place long jump at 6.46 meters (21' 2.50"). Ethan Spahr topped the leaderboard for Trine in multiple events, including a fourth-place high jump (1.84 meters / 6' 0.50"), third-place triple jump (12.83 meters / 42' 1.25"), and fifth-place javelin (42.48 meters / 139' 4.00").

Theodore Samra had the best score for the Thunder in both the hammer throw 51.32 meters / 168' 4.00") and shot put (14.07 meters / 46' 2.00"), and was third and seventh overall. Rhett Gulotta was third in the pole vault (3.65 meters / 11' 11.75") and Travis Dowling was sixth in the discus (43.16 meters / 141' 7.00") to wrap up field events.

Next weekend, Trine will compete in the Little State Championships on April 21-22 at Indiana Wesleyan University.
