ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's tennis team was defeated by visiting Hope College falling to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opponent by the score of 9-0.

The Thunder came close to a win in the No. 1 doubles match, the first match of the day. Juniors Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) came up just short of a victory falling by the score of 8-6.

The rest of the matches saw the Flying Dutch pull away from Trine. Spirrison took some games from her opponent in the No. 1 singles match but not enough for a victory, falling 6-2, 6-4. Sophomore Eva Morales (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) forced a tiebreaker in the opening set, but ultimately fell 7-6(7-2), 6-0.

The Thunder fall to 13-4 overall and 4-2 in MIAA play following the loss. The team next takes the courts when they travel to face Calvin University on Wednesday, April 21. The MIAA match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
