Women's Tennis Hands Carthage Loss in 5-4 Thriller

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The Trine University women's tennis team took two singles matches with tiebreakers to come up with a 5-4 victory over Carthage College.

Carthage started the contest strong picking up two of three matches in the doubles portion. The lone victory for the Thunder came in the No. 3 match where junior Kyra Braun (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) and sophomore Katie Simon (Paw Paw, Mich. / Paw Paw) came up with the 8-6 win.

The Thunder comeback came in the singles portion where they came up with four crucial points. Braun finished off the contest undefeated with a victory in the No. 3 match with scores of 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). Freshman Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) also needed a tiebreaker in the second set to take the No. 1 match with scores of 6-0, 7-6 (7-3). 

Freshman Camille Lozier (Elkhart, Ind. / Concord) came away with the most convincing victory of the day taking the No. 4 match with scores of 6-1, 6-0. The final win of the Thunder came in the No. 4 match where sophomore Delaney Keirn (Claypool, Ind. / Whitko) finished off the win with scores of 6-3, 6-4.

The Thunder will return home from their spring break with a 6-3 record. They will compete again when they host Bethel (Ind.) College on Wednesday, March 20 which is set to begin at 4 p.m.
