Visiting Bethel Defeats Women's Tennis

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's tennis team came up just short of visiting Bethel College by the score of 5-4.

The Thunders started the contest right taking two of the three doubles matches. In the No. 1 match, freshmen Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Tatum Matthews (Midland, Mich. / Herbert Henry Dow) needed a super tiebreaker but came up with the win 8-7 (7-3). The other victory came in the No. 2 match where sophomore Andrea Jordan (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) and freshman Camille Lozier (Elkhart, Ind. / Concord) came away with an 8-6 win.

The Pilots took the lead in the singles portion where Trine could only come up with two wins to fall 5-4 in the contest. Spirrison remained undefeated on the night picking up the win in the No. 1 match with scores of 6-0, 6-4. The team's other win came in the No. 6 match where freshman Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) came up with the win 6-3, 6-0.

The Thunder fall to 6-4 following the loss. They will take the courts again Saturday, March 23 when they host Wittenberg University starting at 1 p.m.
