ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine women's lacrosse team battled Concordia Chicago to overtime, but the Cougars scored in the extra period to earn the 14-13 victory Tuesday evening in Zollner Athletic Stadium.

Elena Gallego (Norwalk, Calif. / Santa Fe) scored off a feed from Rebecca Plantz (DeWitt, Mich. / DeWitt) with 24 seconds remaining to tie the score at 13-apiece and send the game to extra time. The Cougars were able to get the winner when Sophia Robson directed a loose ball in front into the back of the net in OT. Trine fell to 1-1 on the season, while Concordia evened its record at 1-1.

Trine rallied back from a three-goal deficit in the second half to force overtime. Plantz cut the deficit to two, scoring off a pass from Bailey Brown (Sheridan, Ind. / Westfield), then cut the score to 12-11 with the last of her four goals with 8:32 to play. Just over a minute later, Gallego scored on a wraparound to tie the score up at 12-12.

Sydney Fuller scored with one-minute left to give Concordia the lead. The Thunder won the ensuing draw control and Plantz drew a free-position attempt. When the defense closed in, Plantz dished off to Gallego, who found the back of the net for the game-tying goal.

Cougar goalie Krystal Phillips and Trine counterpart Audrey Poteet (Indianapolis, Ind. / Ben Davis) each made saves in the overtime period to keep their teams alive before Robson's goal gave CC the win. Poteet made 10 saves, while Phillips countered with 13.

Plantz's four goals and assist paced the Thunder attack. She collected a team-high six ground balls. Gallego and Laura Rosekrans (Williamston, Mich. / Williamston) each added three goals, while Anne Mammel (Tecumseh, Mich. / Tecumseh) filled that stat sheet with two goals, an assist and a team-high three caused turnovers. Kiersten Osowski (Granger, Ind. / Penn) added a goal.

Fuller led the Cougars with six goals, three assists, six ground balls, five draw controls and three caused turnovers. Anna Kellar added four goals.

Trine outshot Concordia by a 37-27 margin. The Cougars scored three free-position goals in seven attempts.

The Thunder travel to Benedictine (Ill.) for non-conference action Saturday, Mar. 11 at 2 p.m.
