ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's lacrosse team fell to Hope College 20-8 on a rainy Saturday morning at Zollner Stadium.
Erin Fariello and
Sydney Weiss each scored hat tricks for the Thunder (7-7, 2-4 MIAA). Hope improves to 11-2 (5-1 MIAA).
Fariello added five ground balls and three draw controls, Weiss caused a turnover and notched an assist.
Izabelle Dominski recorded a goal, and assist, two groundballs, and three draw controls.
The pace was slow in the early portion of the game due to windy and rainy conditions, as the rain subsided, the Dutch goals began raining in. Hope outscored Trine 7-1 in the first quarter to take a lead the Thunder were unable to threaten. Weiss scored twice in the first half and Dominski recorded both her points in the second quarter. Trine trailed 13-5 at halftime.
The Dutch controlled the middle portion of both the third and fourth quarters, leading by as many as 13. Weiss and Fariello finished off their trifectas in the second half.
Sydney Strolberg assisted each woman on a goal.
Despite the loss, the Thunder have clinched a spot in the MIAA Tournament. Trine travels to Saint Mary's College on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. match that will determine the five seed in the tournament.
