Storm Does Not Damper Thunder at Saint Mary's

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Trine University women's lacrosse team snapped a three-game slide on Tuesday afternoon with a 17-13 victory over Saint Mary's College (Ind.). Izabelle Dominski and Sydney Weiss led the Thunder (8-7, 3-4 MIAA) with five goals each. Saint Mary's falls to 10-5 (2-5 MIAA). The Thunder clinch the five seed in the MIAA Tournament, beginning on Saturday.

The Thunder had to wait a little longer than expected to get back in the win column as the game encountered a weather delay that lasted nearly two hours.

Dominski added six draw controls to her five goals and Weiss had three assists. Trine outshot the Belles 41-28 and limited the hosts to a 60% success rate on the clear.

A busy first minute featured three goals, two by the Belles and one from Weiss. Trine regained the lead with unassisted goals from both Weiss and Dominski before the second quarter. The Belles once again gained the lead in the second quarter with back-to-back goals. The teams traded scores from there before heading to halftime tied at six. Isabel Fischer, Dominski, and Hayden Dahlinger found the net for Trine.

The Thunder pulled away in the third quarter with four consecutive goals in just 1:34 of game time. Dahlinger added her second while Dominski and Weiss completed hat tricks and Elizabeth Larson scored on her own to put Trine ahead for good, 10-7. Dahlinger then completed her hat trick with a free position goal. Weiss extended the lead with another and Dominski closed out the third quarter and opened the fourth quarter with advantage goals.

The Belles trimmed the Thunder lead to just one with 6:05 remaining after three consecutive goals. Trine had an answer with three consecutive goals of their own to seal the win.

Trine will travel to Kalamazoo College on Saturday for the first round of the MIAA Tournament. The game time will be announced later this week.
