Thunder Close Out Season with Loss to Alma

Angola, Ind. – Trine's women's lacrosse team fell to Alma, 14-8, in a MIAA conference game Saturday afternoon at Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.

The offensive attack for Trine was led by Anne Mammel (Tecumseh, Mich. / Tecumseh) scoring four goals and Rebecca Plantz (DeWitt, Mich. / DeWitt) contributing two. In addition to her scoring, Mammel set a new record for the most caused turnovers in a game in program history with six. Mammel and Plantz ended the season tying for the team scoring lead at 13 goals each. Emily Reverman and Darby Kahler led Alma's offense with both having four goals each.

Emily Griffin (Oak Forest. Ill. /Carl Sandburg) had four caused turnovers and collected a team high five ground balls.

Mammel beat the Scots' goalie low off a free position attempt to get the Thunder on the board and tie the game at one apiece.

Midway through the first half, Mammel tied the score back up, 2-2, with a top right corner snipe shot.

Mammel got the Thunder within one of the Scots when she scored a goal with five minutes to play in the first half. Less than a minute later, Laura Rosekrans (Williamstion, Mich. / Williamstion) tied the score back up to four apiece.

Alma went on a three goal run in the final minutes of the first half making the score 7-4 going into halftime.

Plantz stopped Alma's run when she scored a goal early on in the second half, making the score 10-5.

Elena Gallego (Norwalk, Calif. / Santa Fe) scored a goal for Trine, making a move from just outside the offensive zone and moving in on net to cut the score to 13-6.

Coming off a spin move, Plantz was able to dodge Alma's defenders to score her second goal, making the score 14-7.

Mammel made the score 14-8, when she scored in the final minutes of the second half.

Trine recognized its senior class of four, as they played their final lacrosse game in their careers for Trine. The senior class consisted of Gallego, Megan Russ (Perrysburg, Ohio / Perrysburg), Sarah Fowler (Bowling Green, Ohio / Otsego), and Whitney Shaffer (Tipton, Ind. / Tri-Central).

Trine also recognized senior Jonathan Tinkey for all the behind the scenes work he did for the women's lacrosse program.

Trine concluded its season with the record of 1-11 overall and 1-7 in MIAA play. Alma concluded its season with the record of 6-8 overall and 3-5 in MIAA play.
