GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The
Trine University women's tennis team wrapped up their season
as they fell to Calvin College 7-2. The Thunder finish the season
with a record of 6-11 overall and 1-7 in the MIAA.
The ladies got off to a quick start in the
doubles matches as sophomores Jessica Huhnke (Newburgh,
Ind./Castle) and Lauren Schlueter (Akron, Ohio/Revere) won at first
doubles 8-4. That would be the only doubles win for Trine, however,
as sophomore Chrissy Uphaus (Centerville, Ind./Centerville) and
junior Samantha Willmann (Anderson, Ind./Frankton) lost at second
doubles 8-3. The third doubles team of freshman Erin Kwaske
(Jackson, Mich./Western) and junior Kaylynne Goeglein (Fremont,
Ind./Fremont) fought hard, but were unable to take the match,
falling 8-5.
The singles matches were just as close for the
Lady Thunder, but only Huhnke was able to secure a victory as she
easily won at first singles 6-0, 6-1. Uphaus played a very tough
match but fell at second singles 6-4, 7-5. Schlueter lost 6-3, 6-3
at third singles and Kwaske dropped a tough fourth singles match
7-6, 6-3. Willmann fell at fifth singles 6-0, 6-2 and Goeglein also
dropped her sixth singles match 6-1, 6-2.
The Thunder improved by three wins over a season
ago, including picking up their first conference win since
2008.
