THUNDER FALL, TOURNAMENT BID ON THE LINE ON LAST DAY

KENOSHA, Wis. - It will come down to the final game of the season for the Trine University women's lacrosse team as they fell to Carthage 18-4. The Thunder are now 3-6 on the season and 3-3 in the conference.

Trine now needs to either win at Concordia (WI) tomorrow, April 29, or for Mount St. Joseph to lose at Carthage.

It was a tough day for the Thunder as the Lady Reds took a 12-3 lead after the first half. Carthage scored just 24 seconds into the game, but Trine senior Emily Shreeve (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) answer back quickly with a goal just a minute later. Trine would take their first lead of the game at 26:49 of the first half on a goal by senior Ashley Kocsis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson). Carthage would answer back with a goal at 20:57, before Trine's other senior, Shelly Raupp (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) netted a goal at 18:01, to give the Thunder their final lead of the game.

Carthage would finish the half on a 10-0 run as the Thunder were never able to get back into the game.

The Lady Reds would score four more goals to open the second half before Raupp tallied her team-leading 16th goal of the year. Carthage netted the final two goals of the game, shutting out the Thunder in the final 16 minutes of the game.

Kocsis led the Thunder defense with a game-high seven groundballs. Junior Emile Canepa (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) and sophomore Lauren Hood (Austintown, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) each grabbed three.

In goal for the Thunder, freshman Grace Garrett (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) made 10 stops on the day, including seven in the first half.

Carthage out-shot the Thunder 35-18, while Trine recovered more groundballs 23-17. The Lady Reds held a major advantage on draw controls, winning 21-3. The two sides were nearly identical on turnovers as Carthage committed 17 while the Thunder just 13.
