ALBION, Mich. - The Trine
University women's tennis team fell to Albion College by a
score of 8-1. With the loss, Trine falls to 4-9 on the season and
0-5 in the MIAA.
The Albion Britons proved to be a tough opponent
as they swept the Thunder at doubles. Sophomore Jessica Huhnke
(Newburgh, Ind./Castle) and sophomore Lauren Schlueter (Akron,
Ohio/Revere) lost a tight match at first doubles 8-5. Sophomore
Chrissy Uphaus (Centerville, Ind./Centerville) and junior Samantha
Willmann (Anderson, Ind./Frankton) fell at second doubles 8-2 and
freshman Erin Kwaske (Jackson, Mich./Western) and junior Kaylynne
Goeglein (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) dropped the third doubles match
8-4.
The Lady Thunder picked up one win at singles but
that was all they could muster. Huhnke got back on track after her
first loss of the season and defeated a tough Albion opponent 7-6,
6-1. Uphaus fell at second singles 6-2, 6-2 and Schlueter dropped
her third singles match 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Erin Kwaske also fell at
fourth singles 6-1, 6-1. Willmann battled at fifth singles but lost
6-3, 7-5. Junior Kaylynne Goeglein lost her first set of her sixth
singles match, then battled back to take the second. Unfortunately,
she ended up falling in a third set tiebreaker 6-2, 4-6,
(10-4).
The ladies' next match will be their final
home match of the season on April 14th at 1:00 pm against
conference opponent Hope College.
