TRINE WOMEN'S TENNIS DROPS CLOSE MATCH

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Trine University women's tennis team fell in another close match, this time to rival Adrian College 5-4. Trine's season record is now 3-6 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA.

Doubles got Trine off to a quick start as Jessica Huhnke (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) and Lauren Schlueter (Akron, Ohio/Revere) won at first doubles 8-3. Unfortunately, Adrian took the remaining two doubles matches. Chrissy Uphaus (Centerville, Ind./Centerville) and Samantha Willmann (Anderson, Ind./Frankton) lost at second doubles 8-2 and Erin Kwaske (Jackson, Mich./Western) and Kaylynne Goeglein (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) dropped third doubles 8-3.

The singles matches started a lot like the doubles matches for Trine; they won the first two matches fairly quick. Huhnke won at first singles 6-1, 6-0 and Uphaus won at second singles 6-2, 6-2. The only other win for the Thunder came from sixth singles as Susan Breinling (Fremont, Mich./Faith Christian) won 7-6 (6), 7-5. Schleuter lost a tough match at third singles 6-4, 6-3 and Kwaske failed to complete her comeback as she fell 6-1, 7-6 (6).

For the second time this season, Willmann found herself in a position to win the match for Trine at fifth singles. She won the first set, but dropped another grueling three-set match 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Trine will go right back to work as they travel to Huntington University on March 29th for a 4:00 p.m. match.
