THUNDER FALL IN CONFERENCE OPENER

ANGOLA, Ind. - A tough first half for the Trine University women's lacrosse team handed them their first conference loss of the season in their home opener against Adrian College, falling 17-3. The Thunder drop to 0-3 on the season.

Adrian, the leading scoring team in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference, scored 12 goals in the opening half as the Thunder were limited to just eight shots.

The Bulldogs would tally the first four goals of the second half as they took a 16-0 lead.

Trine senior Shelly Raupp (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) got the Thunder on the board with her third goal of the season with 11:46 to go in the game. Three minutes later Raupp would tally her second goal of the night as she drove through the bulldog defense for the goal.

Adrian would add another goal before Trine senior Emily Shreeve (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) tallied the final goal of the game with 31 seconds to go, scoring her fourth goal of the season.

In goal for the Thunder, freshman Grace Garrett (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) made a season-high 10 saves on the night while also picking up a game-high five groundballs and a team-high three caused turnovers.

Junior Emily Canepa (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) led the Thunder with four draw controls in the game.Senior Ashley Kocsis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) and sophomore Lauren Hood (Austintown, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) each picked up three groundballs for the Thunder.

Despite the final score, the two sides had nearly identical numbers in several statistical categories. Each side picked up 20 groundballs, while the Bulldogs claimed one more draw control (10-to-9) than the Thunder. Trine committed four more turnovers than Adrian (22-to-18) but the Bulldogs committed more fouls in the game. The Thunder were 11-for-19 on clearing opportunities while Adrian completed 16-of-18 chances.

Trine looks to get on the winning track when they head to conference opponent Fontbonne on March 31 for a 2:00 p.m. game.
