FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Trine University men's lacrosse team has four student-athletes selected to All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) second team. This marks the most selections by the program since the 2018 season.
Junior Mason Levin was the lone repeat selection for the team, making his second appearance on second team All-MIAA. Senior J'Oshua Shaw was joined by sophomores Rocco Curatola and Vin Pantano in making their debut on the second team.
Levin represented the team on defense for second-straight season. The Mason, Ohio native was once again at the center of the defensive effort for the Thunder which finished second in the conference allowing just 7.83 goals per game by MIAA opponents. Levin was tasked throughout the year with defending the opposing team's best player and was almost always up to the task despite not always showing up in the stat sheet. Even still, he finished tenth in the MIAA with 1.67 caused turnovers per game. Overall, he was third on the team with 18 caused turnovers and fifth with 39 groundballs.
Shaw, a native of West Lafayette, Ind., made his debut on the list after a career caping season. The short stick midfielder was also crucial to the team's stout defense. He finished eighth in the conference with 3.83 groundballs per game and 13th with 1.33 caused turnovers per game. Overall, he led the team with 67 groundballs and was second with 23 caused turnovers.
Curratola represented the attackers for the Thunder after leading the team's offensive efforts. The Staten Island, N.Y. native was 13th in conference play with 1.67 goals per game and tenth with one assist per game. All told that made him 11th in points per game. During the entire season he paced Trine with 57 points, finishing second in both goals, with 32, and assists, with 25.
Pantano rounded out the delegation as an offensive midfielder serving as another huge part of the Thunder offense. The Staten Island, N.Y. native third in conference play with 2.17 assists per game and finished ninth with 3.00 points per game. During the season as a whole he led Trine with 34 assists, setting a single season record for the program. He was also second on the team with 46 points.
The Thunder finished the regular season fourth in conference play and after a quarterfinal victory over Kalamazoo College they are next set to play top-seeded Hope College tonight, Tuesday, April 28. The semifinal contest of the MIAA Tournament presented by Collegiate Credit Union is set to begin at 7 p.m.
