FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has named Elina Locane as their women's tennis Athlete of the Week.
This is the third time this season that a member of the team has taken home an athlete of the week honor, the second time for the senior. This is the fifth time in her career that Locane has been tabbed for the award.
The Riga, Latvia native finished the spring break trip a perfect 10-0 as the team won four matches and lost only to a Division II opponent from the University of Mary. Locane went 5-0 in the top-singles match including super tiebreaker wins over her UMary opponent and in the final match of the week. Along with Alexis Maloney, she was also 5-0 in the top doubles match, including a 6-4 win against UMary. No other doubles opponent scored more than one game against the pair.
The Thunder improved to 10-1 overall following the 4-1 week. They are set to take the courts again tomorrow, Tuesday, March 11 when they host Manchester University. That match is set to start at 4 p.m.
