FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Trine University men's tennis team has been selected to finish fourth in the upcoming conference season according to the eight Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) coaches. It is the inaugural preseason poll for men's tennis.
The Thunder garnered votes totaling 27 points in the poll. Totals are determined by votes cast by the association's coaches, who cannot vote for their own team. The program with the most points receives the top spot in the poll.
Kalamazoo College received the maximum of 49 points and seven first place votes to secure the top spot. Calvin University and Hope College tied for second with 40 points each. The Knights are listed first after receiving the final first place tally.
Trine finished fourth during last season's MIAA race. They posted a 4-3 record during the conference slate, while going 11-11 overall.
This fall the team was perfect in six dual matches. Senior Andrew Spirrison has been the leader in singles with no losses during dual match play while splitting time between the No. 2 and 3 matches. Drew Hackney and Emmett Wirth finished the fall perfect in the No. 2 doubles matches.
The Thunder return to play during their trip to Orlando, Fla. during spring break. They are set to take on Cedarville University on Monday, March 2.
