ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's tennis team won their closest match of the season, defeating visiting Taylor (Ind.) University by the score of 4-3 to remain undefeated on the season.

The Thunder faced a battle from the start with the No. 1 doubles match going to a tiebreaker. The duo of Andrew Spirrison and Sammy Yin ultimately came out on top by the score of 7-6(7-4). The other two doubles went to Trine in quicker fashion. Asher Monson and Landon Bassett won in the third match 6-1, while Drew Hackney and Emmett Wirth took the No. 2 match 6-2.

Trine lost three singles matches in a super tiebreaker during the second part of the match, but captured the other three to secure the team victory. Hackney fell in the No. 1 match with scores of 6-4, 0-6, 6-10 and doubles partner Wirth came up short in the No. 4 match 7-6(11-9), 3-6, 9-11. Leyton Byler also dropped a super in the No. 5 match with scores of 6-4, 4-6, 9-11.

Yin secured the first of the singles matches for the team, winning at No. 2 with scores of 6-4, 6-4 while his doubles partner came up with a 6-4, 7-6(7-2) win in the No. 3 match. Monson secured the dual with a 6-0, 7-6(7-0) win in the No. 6 match.

The Thunder are 5-0 following the day. They will continue their season when they travel to face Anderson (Ind.) University on Tuesday, September 23. That match is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
