ALMA, Mich. – Members of the Trine University men's wrestling team traveled to Alma College for the 2026 Mid-States Invitational, with a pair of grapplers reaching fourth place in their respective weight classes.
Kaden Golder was the first member of the team to turn in the fourth-place finish, competing at 125. He won his first two matches by fall to reach the semifinals of the championship bracket. A loss there sent him to the consolation bracket where he won with a 14-3 major decision to reach the third-place match.
Ben Shaffer also turned in a fourth-place finish in his weight class of 174. He opend the day with a win by fall before dropping to the consolation bracket. There he rattled off a win by fall, a 5-4 decision and a medical forfeit to reach the third-place match. His teammate Trey Tobias also competed at 174, winning the fifth-place match. Tobias had wins by fall and major decision on his way to the finish.
A pair of Thunder grapplers faced off in the fifth-place match of the 184 bracket. Andrew Williamson defeated Xander Matz-Lachance to earn fifth in the weight class. Williamson finished with four wins by fall on his way to the victory. Matz-Lachance had two wins by tech fall and a fall on his way to the sixth-place finish.
The last member of the team to secure a place in the top eight was Tyler Beach in the 141 bracket. He finished the day with a loss in the seventh-place match. Along the way he recorded two wins by fall.
Members of the team will next compete when they travel to the NCAA Central Regional beginning on Friday, February 27.
