MARSHALL, Mich. – The Trine University men's golf team took third at the second of four MIAA Jamborees this afternoon.
Carter Schnipke led the Thunder with a third place finish, posting a round of 73.
Trine totaled 301 strokes to place behind Calvin (297) and Hope (300). The Thunder remain atop the MIAA standings following the round but are now tied with Calvin for the lead. The MIAA team with the lowest total strokes following the four fall Jamborees and the 36-hole Spring Finale will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships next May.
Schnipke had a very consistent round with 13 pars. He made birdies on nine, a 567-yard par five, and fifteen, a 505-yard par five. He made seven pars in a row on holes two through eight. He ranks second individually in the conference with a stroke average of 73.5.
Lance Decker placed eighth for Trine with a round of 74. Decker made two birdies in his round coming on holes four and five. Four was a 563-yard par five and five a 404-yard par four. Decker made 12 pars during his round.
Jack Besner was 13
th with a round of 76. He opened his round with 10 consecutive pars, he made birdie on eleven, a 424-yard par four.
Jake Bilby rounded out the Thunder's top four. He shot a 78 with birdies on fifteen and six, a 400-yard par four.
Trine heads to Jamboree #3 next Saturday at Pine River Country Club. Tee time is set for 10:30 a.m. the match will be hosted by Alma College.
