ST. LOUIS – A delegation of Trine University women's tennis student-athletes competed at the Central Regional of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Championship.

A pair of Thunder competed in the singles draw including Elina Locane and Emma Beehler. Locane opened the event with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Eleni Bougioukou from Kalamazoo College. She then ran into the top seeded player from Chicago, falling in straight points.

Beehler lost her opening match to a tough opponent from Otterbein University with scores of 6-0, 6-2. She opened the consolation bracket with an 8-3 victory over an opponent from Transylvania University. The rest of the consolation bracket was canceled due to inclement weather.

The top Thunder doubles team, including Locane and Alexis Maloney, also competed at the event. After dropping to the consolation bracket with an opening round loss, the pair advanced a round due to injury. They followed that with a pair of wins on the court, first defeating a Kalamazoo team 8-5 and then taking down a North Park University pair 8-2. The pair of victories took them to the semifinals before the rest of the bracket was canceled due to the same inclement weather.

The team will return to dual play to finish out the fall portion of the season. They are set to travel to Anderson (Ind.) University tomorrow, Tuesday, September 23. That match is set to start at 3 p.m.
