ALMA, Mich. – The Trine University women's track and field team finished second at the MIAA Championships on Friday afternoon. The Thunder captured four individual championships, set 13 all-time top 10 marks, and broke one school record.
The meet started on Thursday with
Olivia Andrews besting her old mark of 3.34 meters in the pole vault with a 3.40 meter clearance before winning the competition on a third attempt clearance of 3.50 meters/11' 5.75".
Avery Boyce was third in the vault and moves to #2 all-time with a jump of 3.30 meters/10' 10".
It was a 2-4-6 finish for the Thunder in the long jump,
Emma Forker took silver with a jump of 5.22 meters/17' 1.50".
Mackenzie Miller was fourth with 5.07 meters/16' 7.75" and
Emmaline Leatherman bettered her #7 all-time mark with a leap of 4.98 meters/16' 4.25".
Abby Sanner took fourth in the shot put with a heave of 12.22 meters/40' 1.25".
The running finals produced six all-time performances.
Sidney Swick led a 1-2-4-5 finish in the 10,000 meter run. All four women earned spots on the top-10 list. Swick won in 38:09.27 and now ranks #6.
Chloe Goodrich was close behind in 38:16.43 and ranks seventh all-time.
Grace Dubsky's time of 38:39.91 finished fourth and is #9 all-time.
Hannah Parker remained #10 but shaved over a minute off her previous best time, finishing fifth in 38:54.36.
The other two marks came in the 3000-meter steeplechase where
Sophia Altman and
Mia Griesmeyer finished 6
th and 8
th in 11:45.33 and 11:47.42 and are now #6 and #7 in Trine history.
The rest of the meet was contested on Friday afternoon, in the 100-meter dash,
Mackenzie Miller, Forker,
Sophia Peter and
Ariana Todd finished 3-4-5-7 in 12.49, 12.63, 12.75, and 12.87 seconds, respectively. The quartet then set the #3 all-time performance in the 4x100-meter relay and placed second in 48.41 seconds. Forker, Todd, and Miller were fifth, seventh, and eighth in the 200-meter dash. Peter took home the title in the 100-meter hurdles, breaking the tape in 15.32 seconds.
Bailey Puckett was third and
Taryn Pratt finished sixth in the 800-meter run. Puckett's time of 2:17.19 now ranks fourth all-time.
Puckett led a 1-2-4-6 finish in the 1500-meter run. She won in 4:34.83 with
Eleanor Young close behind in 4:35.18 to improve her #3 all-time mark. 10,000-meter champion
Sidney Swick finished fourth in an impressive double clocking 4:40.80 for a new #4 program mark.
Courtney Study took sixth in 4:47.07.
Young was back in action in the 5000-meter run, finishing fourth in 17:54.43.
Chloe Goodrich,
Grace Dubsky, and
Hannah Parker were fifth, sixth, and seventh.
The 4x400-relay team of
Emily Wahl, Puckett, Study, and Todd finished fourth in 4:07.34 for a new #5 all-time mark.
Emmaline Leatherman took fourth and
Isabel Ferguson was eighth in the triple jump with marks of 10.74meters/35' 3" and 10.00 meters/32' 9.75". Leatherman leapt to #2 in program history.
Abby Sanner notched two new top-ten marks in the discus and javelin. She tossed the discus 39.86 meters/130' 9" and the javelin 31.34 meters/102' 10" for fourth and third place finishes. She now ranks #4 and #7 all-time, respectively.
A small group of athletes will continue competing for NCAA Championships qualification marks. The top 22 individuals and 16 relays will compete at the championships on May 22-24.
