GREENCASTLE, Ind. –
Bailey Puckett and
Olivia Andrews toppled program records on Saturday afternoon at the Indiana DIII Championships to lead the Trine University women's track and field team to the team crown. The Thunder tallied 213 points, ahead of second place DePauw University with 193.5 points.
Puckett topped Evie Miller's (Bultemeyer) record in the 1500-meter run in a time of 4:25.77. Miller's previous record stood at 4:27.69. Puckett now ranks second nationally in the event. Miller was a two-time All-American in the event in 2019 and 2021.
Andrews raised her own record in the pole vault from 3.50 meters/11' 5.75" to 3.68m/12' .75". Andrews, who was already the first Trine woman to clear the 11-foot barrier now establishes herself as the first to 12 feet as well. Andrews ranks 20
th nationally with her performance. Both women won their respective events by wide margins.
Puckett also claimed a second place finish in the 800-meter run in a personal best 2:15.59 and now ranks third all-time in the event.
Eleanor Young finished one place behind Puckett in both races in 4:33.39 and 2:16.08, both personal bests. She ranks third and fifth in program history. The duo teamed up with freshmen
Kaylee Birely and
Alyssa Possehn in the 4x400-meter relay to take second place in 4:06.28, the fifth fastest mark all-time.
Birely and Possehn took sixth and seventh in the 400-meter run with personal bests of 59.14 and 1:00.74. Birely is now sixth in program history.
Ariana Todd and
Sophia Peter took fourth and sixth in the 100-meter dash and third and fourth in the 200-meter dash.
Emma Heintzelman was second in the 200 in 26.04 and moves to 8
th all-time. The trio teamed up with
Aniyah Small in the 4x100-meter relay for a second place finish and the third fastest time in program history.
Taryn Pratt and
Halle Overmire took fifth and seventh in the 800-meter run and
Courtney Study was fourth in the 1500-meter run.
Trine swept the top three spots in the 5000-meter run with
Chloe Goodrich taking the win.
Grace Dubsky and
Mia Griesmeyer rounded out the top three.
Hannah Geaney and
Samantha Wogaman took sixth and seventh.
Tessa Szymanski was sixth in the 10,000-meter run.
Peter took third in the 100-meter hurdles and was followed by
Hannah Flores Ness, who had quite the day herself. The freshman moved to third all-time in both the 100-hurdles (15.35) and high jump (1.56m/5' 1.25"). She took the win in the high jump and added a fifth in long jump with a new #10 all-time mark of 5.03m/16' 6".
Emmaline Leatherman added personal bests in the long and triple jump with marks of 5.06m/16' 7" and 10.98m/36' .25" respectively. Those marks are seventh and fourth best in program history.
Macy Bonifield placed sixth in shot put and hammer throw.
Olivia Foster posted the second farthest javelin toss in program history to take the win at 35.29m/115' 9".
The Thunder will split squads next weekend competing at Hillsdale College, Indiana Wesleyan University, and Otterbein University.
