CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – Philip Burney just missed out on a trip to the national championship tournament, finishing fourth at the 2025 NCAA Division III Region V tournament at his weight of 165.
After reaching day two of the event by winning his first consolation bracket contest with a tech fall, Burney needed three straight wins to secure his advance to the final site of the season. He opened today with a quick pin, defeating a wrestler from the University of Chicago in just over a minute.
His second match went nearly the distance but his opponent from Adrian eventually had to bow out due to injury, handing Burney a spot in the third-place match. Burney came up short in that bout, falling 14-1.
As a team the Thunder finished 15th out of 17 teams at the event.
