ANGOLA, Ind. –
Olivia Andrews set a new program record in the pole vault to lead the Trine University Women's Track and Field team at the Mrs. G Invitational Friday evening. Andrews cleared 3.25 meters/10' 8", besting the old record by .05 meters/2". Her performance placed her eighth in a field that included two NAIA national champions.
Elsewhere in the field events,
Emmaline Leatherman and
Isabel Ferguson posted top-5 finishes in the triple jump. Leatherman was fourth, leaping 10.49 meters/34' 5" and Ferguson was fifth with a jump of 9.97 meters/32' 8.25".
Abby Sanner placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 15.29 meters/50' 2".
On the track Trine posted nine top-5 finishes.
Aniyah Small cruised to a second place finish in the 200-meter dash in 26.65 seconds, while
Sophia Peter claimed fourth in 27.02.
Bailey Puckett started a dominant night in the mile, taking gold in a personal best 5:01.56, she then doubled back in the 800-meter run winning that as well in 2:21.99. Close behind in the 800 were
Eleanor Young and
Courtney Study. Young took second in 2:23.80 and Study was fifth, crossing in 2:26.49. Both women set new personal bests. Young set yet another personal best in mile, taking fourth in 5:10.86.
Peter followed up a personal best in the 200 with a second lifetime mark in the 60-meter hurdles. After tying her best mark in the prelims, she finished the final in 9.38 seconds for fourth place.
The 4x400-meter relay team of
Adrianne Jackson,
Kelly Valle,
Taryn Pratt and
Ariana Todd took first place with a time of 4:14.66.
Trine heads to the Grand Valley State Big Meet next weekend on February 14
th and 15
th.
