CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – A delegation of student-athletes traveled to the NCAA Central Regional hosted by Wabash College, with
Philip Burney earning a spot on the second day of the competition with his performance.
The senior guaranteed at least an eighth-place finish by winning three of his four matches. He opened the day with a victory by fall just 3:25 into the match. He followed up with a 5-1 decision in the second round to head to the quarterfinals. He dropped to the consolation bracket after a loss, but won his way to the second day with a 15-0 tech fall.
The top-three finishers in each weight class advance to the national finals. Burney would need to win three straight matches to secure a spot at the final site.
