NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – A delegation of Trine University men's wrestlers headed to the Mid-State Invitational hosted by Manchester University today, with freshman Karrington Cooper leading the way.
Cooper competed in the 125 pound bracket and finished the day with a fourth-place finish. He opened the contest with a 4-2 decision against Colin Hering of Heidelberg University before picking up a 17-7 major decision against Kiernan Magee of Baldwin Wallace University. The pair of wins sent him to the semifinal match where he battled to a tiebreaker finish that went against him. In the third place match he fell to a host wrestling 5-1 to finish the day in fourth.
The rest of the team failed to place at the event. Tyler Beach was the second best finisher on the day picking up a pair of pins in the 141 bracket before losing in the quarterfinals. Austin Crowder lost his opening march but picked up two wins in the consolation bracket, one by pin and the other by tech fall.
The Thunder will next compete when they head to the NCAA Central Regional which is set to be hosted by Wabash College. The two-day event begins on Friday, February 28.
