BEREA, Ohio – The Trine University men's wrestling team finished fifth at the 2025 BW Invite. Seven members of the team placed at the event, with Austin Crowder leading the way with a fourth-place finish.
The Thunder finished the day with 97 team points, four ahead of Albion College. The hosts from Baldwin Wallace University won the day with 191.5 points with Manchester University coming in second with 164 and Case Western Reserve University finishing third with 151.5.
Crowder wrestled at 157 where he won his first three matches to reach the semifinal round of the championship bracket. He had to wins by fall and one that came in sudden victory during the stretch. A member of the home team delegation sent him to the third-place match where he fell to another Hornet. Eli Penquite also competed at 157 and finished eighth in the bracket. He won his first and third matches of the day to reach the seventh place match.
Three other members of the Thunder delegation finished in the top-five of their respective brackets. At 165 Lakin Webb was top finisher. He won his first match by fall before dropping to the consolation side of the bracket in the quarterfinals. He won his final three of the day, twice by fall, to take fifth place.
Gavin Malone took a harder route to the fifth-place match in the 184 bracket. He lost his first bout of the day before ripping off five straight to finish fifth. Four of those wins were by fall, all coming in the first period of the match. His tightest win came in a 20-18 decision against an Albion grappler.
The final top-five finisher was Davin George at 285. He opened the day with a pair of wins to reach the quarterfinals of the championship bracket. He fell to the consolation bracket from there and won three straight to finish the day. He had one win by fall, one by medical forfeit and the rest by decision.
Jacob Saylor  was seventh at 197, picking up wins by fall, tech fall and decision along the way. Kaden Golder shared eighth at 125 after picking up wins by fall and major decision.
The Thunder will travel to face Wabash College in a dual match for their next competition. That dual is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, December 5.
