James Takes Medalist Honors at Flyers Intercollegiate in Dramatic Fashion, Thunder Place Second

LEMONT, Ill. – Garrett James claimed medalist honors in dramatic fashion on Tuesday afternoon to close the 54-hole Flyers Fall Intercollegiate Classic at Cog Hill #4 – Dubsdread hosted by Lewis University. James fired a 54-hole total of 221 strokes to lead the Thunder to a second place finish.
 
James finished the two day tournament tied atop the leader board with two other competitors, forcing a playoff. 55 holes were not enough to determine the winner sending the match to a second playoff hole, James made his putt and took the win in dramatic fashion. His round of 221 ranks third in program history. James shot 73 this afternoon and earned his spot in the playoff by finishing the day with 11 consecutive pars.
 
Carter Schnipke finished ninth overall with a 229. He made nine consecutive pars to open the tournament. The highlight of round two was the eagle he made on hole five, a 495-yard par five. Schnipke closed his round with a 77 this afternoon.
 
Jack Besner tied Schnipke for ninth place, he made four birdies on day one for a 73. He shot 77 and 79 in rounds two and three.
 
Jake Bilby placed 27th with a three day total of 238 strokes and rounded out the Thunder's top four.
 
Asher Caldwell competed individually for the Thunder and was the leader for most of the first round, shooting a 70 that included an eagle of his own on hole five. He finished 17th with a three day total of 234 strokes.
 
The Thunder will close out the fall MIAA season on Monday at the fourth MIAA Jamboree, hosted by Calvin.
