ALMA, Mich. – Garrett James fired a six under 65 to tie the Trine University men's golf record for an 18-hole round on Saturday afternoon at the third of four fall Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamborees. James' round was a part of a team total of 287 strokes that gave Trine the win and sole possession of the MIAA standings. Trine now holds a 3 stroke lead over Calvin.

James nailed seven birdies on the day, his lone blemish was a bogey on hole one. The bogey was quickly equalized by the birdie he made on hole two, a 436-yard par four. He finished the back nine five under. Pairing five of his birdies with four pars. His 65 ties the school record which is now co-held by three men. Joel Bickel initially set the record in 2005, also at a MIAA Jamboree. Cameron Ruge tied the record in 2018 on home turf at the A.C. Eddy Invitational. James now moves into first place individually in the MIAA.

Jack Besner scored a 72 on the 6,561-yard par 71 course. He made five birdies on the day, making three in five holes on eleven, fourteen, and fifteen.

Jake Bilby and Carter Schnipke tied for 17th place with rounds of 75 to round out the Thunder's scorecard. Bilby notched a trio of birds and Schnipke made a pair. All told the Thunder made 17 birdies across 12 different holes.

Trine will make a quick turnaround, heading to the Windy City for the 2025 Lewis Flyers Fall Classic on Monday for a 54-hole tournament. The final MIAA Jamboree of the fall is set for October 13th at Watermark C.C. in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
