GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –
Jack Besner claimed the MIAA Jamboree #4 this afternoon at Watermark Country Club. Trine placed second as a team, one shot behind hosts Calvin with 298 strokes. The Thunder finish the fall portion of the MIAA schedule with a two-stroke lead in the conference standings ahead of the winter break and 36-hole MIAA Spring Final.
Trine claimed two Jamboree wins this fall at #1 and #3,
Garrett James took medalist honors at Jamboree #3 and Besner added to that this afternoon at the 6,827-yard par 72 course with a 71. James finishes the fall ranked second in the conference individually.
Besner was spectacular all afternoon. He made two bogies on the day on his second and last hole. The other sixteen holes featured 13 pars and 3 birdies. He sandwiched eight consecutive pars between and pair of birdies on eighteen and nine, both par fives. He went back-to-back on nine and ten with birdies. This marks Besner's second career medalist honor at an MIAA event. The sophomore claimed Jamboree #3 last year alongside
Carter Schnipke.
Schnipke placed fifth this afternoon with a one over 73. His first six holes were a bit up and down, making two pars, then two bogies, and finally a pair of birdies. He settled in following that, firing 11 consecutive pars enroute to his fifth-place finish.
Jake Bilby was 15
th for Trine with a round of 76, he made four birdies on the day including consecutively on sixteen, seventeen, and eighteen. He added another on hole seven and added seven pars to solidify his round.
Garrett James rounded out Trine's top four with a 78. The back-to-back MIAA Golfer of the Week made 11 pars on the day.
Asher Caldwell played well individually, finishing second with a level par 72. He made birdie on eighteen and four and added fourteen pars to his round.
Lance Decker was the fifth man for the Thunder, finishing 35
th with an 82.
Trine closes out the fall season this weekend at the Region V Showcase in Port Clinton, Ohio at Catawaba Island Club.
