FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Sophomore Max Van Huis finished in sixth place at the Mastodon XC Alumni Open this evening to lead the Trine University Cross Country team to a second place team finish.
 
Van Huis finished in 25:59.7, MIAA Cross Country Athlete of the week Ryan Hoopingarner was close behind in ninth place with a time of 26:24.8. Joseph Packard closely followed Hoopingarner in 11^th place. Blake Overmyer and Robert Lohman rounded out the Thunder's top finishers in 19^th and 20^th place.
 
Trine posted five top-20 finishers with a team spread of just 1:19. The Thunder scored 57 points to finish in second place behind hosts Purdue Fort Wayne and beating NAIA-foe St. Francis (Ind.)
 
The Cross Country squad will take next weekend off before heading to Terre Haute for the DIII Pre-Nationals meet on October 4^th hosted by Rose-Hulman.
