FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Trine University men's cross country team made the short trip south to The Summit City to open their season Saturday morning. The Thunder took second of four teams in a race consisting of two other NCAA Division I teams.
Blake Overmyer was the top finisher for Trine, placing fifth.
Overmyer led the way for Trine finishing the 5000 meter race in 15:52.2. A pack time of just 26 seconds kept the point total low for the Thunder.
Nicholas Spielman was second for Trine, crossing in 15:56.7 for seventh place.
Ryan Hoopingarner was eighth in 16:08.4 and
Drew Sillaway took tenth, crossing in 16:12.7.
Brady Millington rounded out the Thunder five in his first collegiate race finishing 11
th in 16:18.0.
Trine took second behind hosts Purdue Fort Wayne and topped Youngstown State and the PFW alumni team. Trine will return to the PFW Cross Country course in two weeks for their first 8k race of the year.
