Thunder Women Third After Day One of Conference Championships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After the first day of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the Trine University women's team is third through six scored events. Thursday's action consisted of finals in four field events and two track events as well as preliminary times for most track events.

Mackenzie Miller scored the only event win for Trine on the day in the long jump. She won the event with a new season-best score of 5.44 meters (17' 10.25"). Other scorers for the Thunder included Emma Forker in second (5.30 meters / 17' 4.75") and Kristin Baker in fourth (4.97 meters / 16' 3.75").

A runner-up finish in the conference was credited to Abby Sanner in the shot put at 12.13 meters (39' 9.75"), a new personal record. Macy Bonifield scored a point for the squad with her eighth-place finish (10.91 meters / 35' 9.50"). The pole vault saw Avery Boyce secure third after she reached a height of 3.20 meters (10' 6.00") and Morgan Moslow was seventh at 3.00 meters (9' 10.00"). Bonfield was also seventh in the hammer throw (38.24 meters / 125' 5.00"), the best score for the team.

The trio of Sidney Swick, Chloe Goodrich and Hannah Parker went 2-3-4 in the meet's opening track event, the 10,000-meter run. Swick ran a time of 40:51.82, while Goodrich and Parker followed behind at 41:05.01 and 41:21.43, a new personal record for Parker. Piper Barker was the only Trine student-athlete competing in the 3000-meter steeplechase and scored a tenth-place finish (13:03.30).

Two qualified for the 100-meter hurdle finals for the Thunder in Brynn Mericle (15.43 seconds) and Adrianne Jackson (16.65 seconds). The pair also made it to the finals of the 400-meter hurdles with times of 1:06.51 by Mericle and 1:11.52 by Jackson. The two will be joined by Baker, who turned in a time of 1:07.63 in the event to reach Friday's finals. Anissa Rios was the top finisher for Trine in the 400-meter prelims with a time of 1:03.98 (13th).

Miller added on to her impressive day by qualifying for the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 12.47 seconds. Forker (12.85 seconds) and Aniyah Small (12.85 seconds) will join her. That group will also compete in the 200-meter dash finals on Friday after securing times of 26.16 seconds (Miller), 26.57 seconds (Small) and 26.80 seconds (Forker).

In the 800-meter prelims, Brianna Medcalf (2:20.32), Halle Overmire (2:19.98) and Emily Wahl (2:20.88) will all compete for a conference championship.

Action begins at 12 p.m. on Friday at Calvin where a team champion will be crowned as well as more individual titles will be won.
