Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Trine University men's lacrosse team's come back attempt wasn't enough with their hosts from Otterbein University coming up with the win, 8-5.
The Thunder's Kramer Zastrow scored the first goal of the game, but the Cardinal quickly responded to tie the game at one in the first minute of play. The home team scored the next two goals to build a 3-1 lead.
Aidan Kubiak responded in the final minute of the period with an assist by Peter Piccillo. The teams went into the first intermission with Otterbein holding a 3-2 lead.
They built on that lead in the second outscoring Trine 2-1 in the period and taking a 5-3 score into halftime. JJ Boos scored the lone goal of the period for the Thunder during the stretch.
The Cardinal had another 2-1 period in the third. It was close to a shutout by the team, but Piccillo came up with a goal in the final seconds to make the score 7-4. Both teams scored in the third period, Charlie Anderson coming through for the Thunder, for the final tally of 8-5.
In goal, Nick DiPaolo had a great game despite the loss. He finished with 18 saves, tied for ninth most in program history.
Trine falls to 3-4 overall following the loss. The Thunder will return home for just the second time this season for their next contest. They will host Muskingum University on Saturday, March 16 with a 2 p.m. opening faceoff.
