Runner Up Team Finish for Women's Track & Field Sees Three Event Wins

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's track and field team placed second at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Indoor Championships on Saturday afternoon. The Thunder tallied 144 points with the team champions Hope College in first at 176 points.

The highlight for the day for Trine was Mackenzie Miller. She won the long jump at 5.37 meters and set two new school records. She was third in both the 60-meter dash (7.85 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (26.17 seconds) to set new school records and personal bests in both events. Miller had one of three events wins, the others coming from Bailey Puckett in the mile run (5:06.51) and Emmaline Leatherman in the triple jump (10.51 meters). Puckett also scored a fifth-place finish in the 3000-meter run (10:41.83) and Leatherman was sixth in the long jump (4.89 meters) and eighth in the high jump (1.35 meters).

Emma Forker was second in the long jump at 5.19 meters and scored points for the team in the 60-meter dash for a fifth-place spot (8.10 seconds). Other athletes that scored in multiple events included Aniyah Small (sixth in the 60-meter dash at 8.13 seconds and fourth in the 200-meter dash at 27.03 seconds), Kristin Baker (fifth in the 400-meter dash at 1:02.28 and fourth in the long jump at 5.00 meters), Sidney Swick (seventh in the 3000-meter run at 10:59.55 and sixth in the 5000-meter run at 18:41.84) and Isabel Ferguson (fourth in the high jump at 1.54 meters and sixth in the triple jump at 9.65 meters).

Lydia Randolph scored points in the 3000-meter run (sixth at 10:46.74) and 5000-meter run (fourth at 18:25.8) and contributed to the runner up distance medley relay team with Marissa Kenney, Anissa Rios and Kelly Valle. Brynn Mericle was also second in her event, the 60-meter hurdles. She completed the race with a time of 9.51 seconds. She was a member of the fourth-place finishing 4x400-meter relay team with Adrianne Jackson, Baker and Rios (4:18.02).

Women's track and field will head to Wartburg College for a Last Chance Meet in an attempt to qualify for the NCAA Indoor National Championships. That event takes place on March 1-2.
