Box Score OBERLIN, Ohio – A four-goal performance from Aiden Theobald wasn't enough as the Trine University men's lacrosse team dropped their first road contest of the season, falling 11-6 to their hosts from Oberlin College.
The Yeomen scored the first two goals of the contest, in the opening five minute so play. The Thunder were able to erase the deficit before the end of the quarter, on the back of a pair of goals by Theobald. The senior was assisted on each of the goals, once by Patrick Doyle and the other by Jackson Bell.
A pair of penalties due to illegal equipment put both team's off their game to start the second quarter. Eventually Oberlin's penalty ended, and they had a man advantage for two minutes of game time. Trine did a great job for most of that stretch, giving up just one goal while short-staffed. The Yeomen found some rhythm following the penalty and scored three more goals in the period to build a 6-2 lead.
Mitchell Voglewede scored with just over two minutes remaining in the half to cut the lead back to three at 6-3 as the teams went to the intermission.
Each of the final two periods saw the home team score one more goal than the Thunder, halting any comeback attempt and pulling away to the 11-6 victory. Theobald scored two more goals with JJ Boos getting the third. Peter Piccillo added the last assist for the team.
Trine falls to 1-1 following the loss. They are set to continue their season when they travel to face Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, February 28. That game is set to start at 4 p.m.
