ANGOLA, Ind. – Five members of the Trine University men's wrestling team placed at their own Trine Invitational. The quintet was led by
Philip Burney who was runner-up at 165 pounds.
Burney began his run to the championship match with a pair of tech falls. He opened against Quintez Pratt of Wilmington College and followed up against Emilio Liscano of Indiana Tech, defeating both 15-0. His closest win came in the quarterfinals where he edged out Josh Heuss of University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a 3-2 decision. In the semifinals he won with pain, just 1:55 into the match.
Lakin Webb finished fifth in the same bracket. He won by major decision in his opening round, 13-4 against Joe Kelley of Stevens Point, before defeating Calvin Huggler of Alma College 7-2 and Jeirmi Scales of Southwestern Michigan College 4-2. He dropped his semifinal match and consolation semifinal to end up with the fifth-place match. There he recorded an 8-0 major decision over Scales again to take the finish.
In the 184 pound bracket,
Gavin Malone placed fifth as well. He picked up two pins to start the day, before falling in his quarterfinal match to head to the consolation side of the bracket. There he posted two more pins to reach the semifinal round. A loss there sent him to the fifth place match where he won by no contest.

Kyler Bills winning in sudden victory over
Davin George.
