Men's Lacrosse Blitzed by Visiting Calvin

ANGOLA, Ind. – The visitors from Calvin University got off to a quick start and then staved off the attempts by the Trine University men's lacrosse to comeback, handing the team their first loss of the season by the score of 17-5.

The Knights scored three goals in the first two minutes of the contest and then built a 7-0 lead in the rest of the first quarter.

The Thunder finally got on the board with 10:23 remaining in the second quarter. Sophomore Patrick Doyle scored the goal which brought the score to 8-1. The next three goals went to Calvin, before senior Andrew Douglas scored for Trine, with Doyle adding an assist. The final two goals of the half went to the Knights making the score 13-2 at the intermission.

The woes continued in the third with Calvin scoring four straight and building their lead to its biggest of the day at 17-2. Junior Collin Custer scored his first goal of the game in the final seconds of the quarter, with freshman Chris Molnar adding an assist.

Trine scored the lone goals of the final period. Sophomore Charlie Anderson joined Custer in getting one each to make the score final at 17-5.

The Thunder fall to 9-1 overall and 1-1 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play following the loss. They will continue their season on Saturday, April 15 when they travel to face Hope College. That game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
