Thunder Valiant in 2-0 Loss Against the Hoosiers

Box Score

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Trine University men's soccer team concluded the regular season with a match against NCAA Division I opponent Indiana University. The Thunder were able to put up an excellent fight against their in-state foe, dropping the bout by a score of 2-0.

The win for Indiana makes them 8-4-4 overall this season. Trine is now 7-6-3 overall heading into the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament next week.

Despite a wide shot differential, the defense was bend but don't break in the first half and only trailed at the break 1-0. A goal in the 25th minute would be the only score of the period, but the Hoosiers outshot the Thunder 16-1 in total.

The lone attempt for Trine came from Gavin Hardy as he missed off target in the 16th minute. He was a part of a defensive line that included Ryan Cote, Liam Zimmerman and Luke Kearns that was able to block seven shots (one team save). In net, Dillon Lambert recorded four first half saves.

The second half would be more of the same as Indiana peppered the net with shot attempts. The final tally would be a 34-4 difference in shots, with Zimmerman, Ben Borak and Tyler Murphy each making attempts in the second half, all of them missing the frame.

In just under 72 minutes as the team's goalkeeper, Lambert (5-3-1) made a total of seven saves. Aidan McGonagle relieved him in the second half and was 2-for-2 on saving shots on goal from the Hoosiers.

The Thunder now await the winner of the #3 Hope College versus #6 Olivet College match in the First Round of the MIAA Tournament on Saturday, October 28. The winner will challenge Trine, the two-seed, on Wednesday, November 1 at 7 p.m. on Shive Field.
