Thunder Short in Comeback Attempt

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's soccer team made a comeback bid against visiting Alma College but ultimately fell 2-1 in the contest.

The lone goal of the first half went to the Scots in the 21st minute, coming on their only shot on goal in the half. Trine forced four saves but just couldn't find the back of the net.

The Thunder dominated the possession in the second half and had multiple scoring chances. The Scots' defense closed ranks however, coming up with multiple blocks along with a pair of saves.

A counterattack gave Alma the 2-0 lead in the 80th minute. Brandon Walker made a save against the initial shot, but the rebound went in front of the net and left him out of position. After a scrum for possession in front of the goal, Alma eventually netted the goal.

Four minutes later the Thunder finally responded. A foul just outside of the penalty area gave the team a prime opportunity. Rather than playing the ball in front of the net, Jonah Sipes bent a shot into the far side of the net.

Trine couldn't net an equalizer and the 2-1 score went final.

The Thunder fall to 3-11-1 overall and 1-5-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play. The team currently sits seventh in the MIAA standings, two points behind Adrian College. Trine will need help from The University of Olivet to sneak into the MIAA Tournament, along with a win in their final match against Albion College which is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27.
