Balanced Offense Leads Men's Lacrosse to 13-3 Victory

ANDERSON, Ind. -- Nine different student-athletes would score as the Trine University men's lacrosse team to a 13-3 victory over their hosts from Anderson (Ind.) University.

Neither team would score during the first ten minutes of the contest, but the Thunder would break the stalemate before the end of the quarter. Sophomore Collin Custer (Spanaway, Wash. / Bethel) came up with the first goal of the game giving the team a 1-0 lead. A second goal would come a few minutes later, this time from freshman Charlie Anderson (Howell, Mich. / Howell) with just over two minutes remaining.

The team would add to their lead early in the second period. This time junior Josh Ward (Oakland, Ill. / St. Rita) would score the goal. Just over two minutes later senior Dave Keptner (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow) made the score 4-0 with another goal.

Junior Noah Markus (Woodbury, Minn. / East Ridge) and Anderson with his second of the day would finish off the half giving the team a 6-0 lead at halftime.

The team took the score to 9-0 to start the second half, scoring three goals in the first four minutes. Junior Andrew Douglas (Liberty Twp., Ohio / Lakota East) and senior Matt Zanichelli (Rolling Meadows, Ill. / William Fremd) joined Markus in tallying the goals.

The Ravens would finally get on the board with a pair of goals during the middle portion of the quarter cutting the lead back to seven at 9-2. The last goal of the period would belong to freshman Patrick Doyle (Fishers, Ind. / Cathedral) giving Trine a 10-2 lead heading into the final break.

Anderson opened the final period with a goal to cut the lead 10-3, but then the final three goals would go to trine giving the team their final 13-3 victory. Freshman Samuel Achor (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll) joined Zanichelli and Ward to tally those goals.

Defensively Keptner finished the game with a team-high seven groundballs with junior Jack Konicek (Geneva, Ill. / Geneva) coming in second with five. Konicek would also take faceoff duties and finished 11-8 in the circle.

Sophomore Nick DiPaolo (Flemington, N.J. / Immaculate) got the start in net for the team and finished the first half with three saves while allowing no goals. Three different members of the team saw time in net for the team in the second half.

The team improves to 6-1 following the victory. They will enter the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) portion of their schedule for their next game. The home contest against Alma College is scheduled for Saturday, April 9 at 3 p.m.
