Box Score ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University men's soccer team advanced to the next round of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament with a 5-0 win against Olivet (Mich.) College at Weaver Field in Angola, Ind.
Trine (10-4) wasted no time scoring its first goal when freshman Tyler Murphy (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield Central) found the back of the net just 2:39 into play with an assist from freshman Alhusain Yahya (Melvindale, Mich./Melvindale). Nearing the midway point of the period, the Thunder struck again to make it a 2-0 game thanks to a goal by sophomore Jared Cromwell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) during the 21st minute.
The Trine offense wasn't done yet and tacked on a final goal in the half during the 44th minute when junior Brian Morris (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer) scored unassisted on a corner kick that deflected in the net off of the Olivet (2-3) goalkeeper to send the Thunder into the locker room with a 3-0 advantage.
Trine's lead remained three goals until the 72:28 mark when Alhasan Yahya (Melvindale, Mich./Melvindale) got in the scoring column with another goal for the Thunder which increased the margin to 4-0. About five minutes later, Trine scored what turned out to be the final goal of the game that came off the foot of freshman Abraham Antar (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) during the 78th minute as Trine went on to win by the final of 5-0.
Freshman Troy Saylor (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) got the win at goalkeeper after playing all 90 minutes and made six saves.
Trine advances to play the winner of the Calvin vs. Albion game on Thursday, Apr. 22. Start time and location of the game is to be determined.
