Comeback Against Hope Comes Up Short, 2-1

Box Score

HOLLAND, MICH.  --  Trailing by a pair of goals going into the second half, the Trine University men's soccer team rallied for one score in the final period, but couldn't net the equalizer before time expired and fell to the Flying Dutchmen, 2-1, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association game in Holland, Mich.

Hope (2-0, 2-0 MIAA) struck for both of its goals early in the first half, including its first score just over a minute into play off of rebound for the early 1-0 lead.  The Flying Dutchmen capitalized again a few minutes later by getting another shot into the back of the net during the eighth minute to make it a 2-0 game.

Those were the only two points scored the rest of the period as the home team took its two-goal advantage into the locker rooms.

The deficit remained at a pair of goals until the 79:37 mark when senior Trevor Towghi (Portage, Mich./Portage Northern) put Trine (6-3, 1-2 MIAA) on the board with an unassisted goal which also narrowed the gap to 2-1.  The Thunder's only shot in the final 10 minutes went wide of its intended mark allowing Hope to hang on for the 2-1 victory.

Freshman Troy Saylor (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) played a solid game in net for the Thunder and ended the night with six saves.

Trine is scheduled to host Kalamazoo (Mich.) College on Monday, Apr. 5 at Weaver Field.  Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
