Women's Hockey Roars Past Visiting Chatham

Box Score

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's hockey team got back on track offensively posting five goals against visiting Chatham University as they went on to win 5-1.

The Thunder opened the scoring in the first period with a pair of power-play goals. The first came from junior Jade Pandres (Eagle River, Alaska) in unassisted fashion as she stole the puck in the neutral zone and fired a shot from the point.

The second goal, which would end up being the game-winner, came from sophomore Theresa DiMaggio (Shelby Township, Mich.). Junior Hannah Nelson (Libertyville, Ill.) and freshman Grace Canty (West Bloomfield, Mich.) added assists.

Trine pulled ahead by three with the lone goal of the second period. Junior Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.) started the play with a long pass out of the defensive zone to sophomore Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich.). Wilson carried the puck into the offensive end before passing it off to junior Sierra Westner (Saginaw, Mich.) who finished off the 2-on-1 opportunity with a goal.

The Cougars finally got on the board in the opening minutes of the third period bringing the score to 3-1 in favor of the Thunder.

It took ten minutes but Trine responded. Isaacson came up with the neutral zone steal and fired off a breakaway shot on goal, which was saved. She collected her own rebound looped back around the trailing defenders and fired a second shot which hit the mark for the goal.

The team would add another goal in the closing seconds of the contest. Junior Emily Moore (London, Ontario) scored the goal, with junior Kirsten Vandenheuvel (Denfield, Ontario) and DiMaggio adding assists.

In net, senior Molly Scarborough (Ramsey, Minn.) turned in a strong effort. She finished the contest with 22 saves.

Trine improves to 4-5-3 following the victory. They will face off with Chatham again tomorrow, Saturday, January 11. Opening puck-drop is scheduled for 2 p.m.
