Women's Hockey Bows Out of Slaats Cup Playoffs

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Trine University women's hockey team bowed out of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup Playoffs with a 6-1 loss to nationally ranked Adrian College.

The top-seeded Bulldogs scored three straight goals to start the game, two in the first and one in the second. It looked like they would take that 3-0 lead into the second intermission as time waned for a response. A penalty gave new life to the Thunder offensive with just over three minutes remaining in the stanza. Adrian won a neutral zone faceoff during the penalty kill attempt, but Hannah Lambers stole the puck back almost immediately before going up the far side of the ice and scoring the unassisted goal.

The 3-1 score lasted into the fourth minute of the final period when Adrian started a stretch of three more goals that made the score the 6-1 final.

Claire Schmaltz played the game in net for the Thunder and finished with 36 saves despite allowing the goals. Aleah Bienek once again led the team with 13 faceoff victories, while losing just seven.

Trine concludes the season with a 7-18-2 overall record.
