Women's Hockey Reins in Morrisville

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's hockey team picked up their first win of the season, sending SUNY Morrisville away with a 4-1 result.

The Thunder wasted little time taking the lead in the game, scoring their fist in the fourth minute of play. Hannah Lambers did it by herself, keeping the puck in the forward zone as the Mustangs attempted to clear before resetting at the blue line. She moved forward through the defense before flicking the puck into the upper half of the net.

A late power play set up a chance for the team to build on their lead. Ryleigh White won the ensuing faceoff back and the team worked it to the point where Dorka Gengeliczky fired a shot toward the net. Maya Shtrom deflected it from close forcing the save. The rebound slipped free and White was able to crash it home from the side of the net.

Trine made it 3-0 in the seventh minute of the second period. The goal came in transition with passes from Morgan Ghag and Sydney Streb setting up Emma-Lyn Stephenson who scored the goal.

Morrisville scored their lone goal of the game in the seventh minute of the third, cutting the deficit to two at 3-1.

Looking for two goals, the Mustangs pulled the goalie early and the Thunder iced the game in response. Lydia Ydenberg and Lambers worked together to get the puck out of the defensive zone and behind the defense. Chloe Downey collected it and fired a shot from the blueline into the empty net.

In net for Trine, Claire Schmaltz played a great game. She made 24 saves and her lone goal against came at the end of a string of five saves in just ten seconds.

The Thunder end the day 1-0-1. They remain at home for their next contest, hosting Concordia College Moorhead on Friday, November 6. That game is schedule to start at 5:00 p.m.
