Box Score ANGOLA, Ind. - It was a
tough day for the Trine University men's lacrosse team as
they fell to conference leader Adrian 14-4. The loss drops the
Thunder to .500 on the season at 7-7 overall and 3-2 in the
MIAA.
It was all Bulldogs in the early goings as they
jumped out to 6-0 lead midway through the second quarter. Trine
would finally get on the board at 8:14 of the second on a man-up
goal by freshman Chris Ward (Oak Lawn, Ill./St Rita) off an assist
from freshman George Youpel (Chicago Ridge, Ill./St Rita).
Adrian would add a man-up goal of their own with
1:16 left in the half as they led it 7-1.
Adrian put the game away in the third as they
scored five unanswered goals in the quarter.
The Thunder would score three goals in the
fourth. After a Bulldogs goal to start the final frame, senior
Dalton Madsen (Westminster, Colo./Northglenn) would net his
team-leading 30th goal of the year on a man-up chance. Freshman
Paul Carlquist (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) would net
his 17th of the season on an assist from freshman Jack Brown
(Middletown, Ohio/Archbishop Alter). Trine's final goal would
come off the stick of freshman Nic Ruby (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop
Chatard) with 3:49 to go in the game.
Junior Matt Lamb (Akron, Ohio/Revere) took the
loss in goal for the Thunder making three saves in the first half.
Sophomore Austin Helm (Akron, Ohio/Revere) came on in the second
half and made six stops.
Junior Rob Brzezinski (Livonia, Mich./Detroit
Catholic Central) led all players with nine groundballs while going
13-of-18 in the faceoff circle. Madsen and Ward each also picked up
four groundballs on the afternoon.
For the day, the Thunder held a 30-to-27
groundball advantage and won 15-of-22 faceoffs. Adrian out-shot
Trine 38-to-26 as both sides had similar numbers on turnovers, 14
for Trine and 12 for Adrian. Both sides were near perfect on
clearing as the Thunder converted 15-of-16 while Adrian was
successful on 23-of-24. On the afternoon, Trine was 2-for-9 on
extra-man opportunities.
Trine will close out the regular season on Senior
Day as Hope will visit Angola on April 27 for a 1:00 p.m. game. The
winner will secure the third seed the MIAA tournament.
